I was so looking forward to reading this book. Unfortunately, i got it on the day before my final exam. Yeah I know, not one of my smartest decisions.

So, about the story, Rose has always dreamed about opening her coffee shop, when she was finally close to achieving her dream, everything changes. Let me just say that I really do love marriage of convenience novels. This is what this book about. Also this was a slow burn romance. And I really love slow burn romances!!! This book has been recommended to me many times and I see why- It was such a great read.

I love a good slow burn and the marriage of convince troupe! Jack and Rose are complete strangers the day they meet, but Jack asks Rose to marry him. Especially once I found out more of his backstory.

He cared about Rose and truly loved her and she fell for him as well. I loved the build up of their romance and watching them fall in love. I listened to the audiobook of Marriage for One and it was narrated by Stella Bloom and Lance Greenfield who both did a great job voicing Rose and Jack. This was a longer audiobook, but I felt like it flew by. I never wanted to press pause. This was such a gorgeous and passionate romance. I highly recommend to all readers who love a good slow burn romance with a broody yet swoony hero!

Jack proposing a fake marriage in order for Rose to get her coffee shop for a very short time, and Rose jumped at the chance.

Her actions made her look superficial and material, but it got this MOC story started. Shortly after the marriage, Jack was distant towards Rose. Only giving her brief replies when she'd talk to him, leaving her alone for a while right I'm absolutely in the minority with this story, but I didn't completely love this one. Only giving her brief replies when she'd talk to him, leaving her alone for a while right after they were married.

From the blurb, I expected Jack to be some kind of cold a-hole towards Rose, but he truly wasn't. Jack might have acted a bit distant towards Rose, but he still treated Rose very good from the very beginning of this story to the end.

The story felt really long and drawn out though. Once these two were married, not much happened for most of the rest of the story. Jack and Rose just did normal life stuff, but a TON of normal life stuff. They painted and got the coffee shop set up, then they just lived. The story was mostly about them working-Jack disappearing off to do his job and lots about Rose selling coffee and food at her shop, then the story revolved around these two eating and talking going out to work event, etc.

Every once in a while Rose would self pityingly and annoyingly fling it into Jack's face that the marriage wasn't real and that he was doing more for her than he signed up for. I was positive with all the secrecy and the warnings from Jack's assistant that he was never going to be forgiven if Rose found out "the true" reason he wanted to marry her, that Jack has some kind of selfish or nefarious reasoning behind his actions.

He was just smitten with her from the very first sight of her and wanted to marry her to protect her from the douche she was previously engaged to, the same douche who was planning on stealing everything he could away from Rose. Completely stupid premise considering if he had just told Rose the truth from the beginning she'd have broken up with the money stealing douche, and Jack and Rose could have tried dating and getting to know each other like normal people do.

Turns out Jack's assistant was right. Rose had a meltdown, treating Jack like shit and walking away from him even though he let her know how he had been taken with her from the very first sight of her, and he explained how he had done everything he could in his power to protect her from so many others willing to hurt her.

Rose was a total bitch to Jack at this point, despite learning how he had done everything in his power to protect her from others who wanted to hurt her and jack her around. If that wasn't the icing on the cake to turn me completely off from Rose in this story, her ridiculous game playing with Jack after that encounter did it.

The best part of this story was when Jack called Rose's bluff and served her with divorce papers, but even then Rose wanted to keep playing games with Jack until he starting really pushing Rose to sign the divorce paper.

Rose did an about face after that. She finally wanted Jack for real after he threatened to divorce her. I'm the odd man out on this one, but for me it was a very long boring story for the most part, and I never felt a real connection with either main character. View all 31 comments. The mo 3. He was just sooo closed off, aloof, and expressionless.

I legit wondered if he was on the spectrum. In addition, there were no other drama or subplots. Thus, the book felt uneventful and too lengthy at times.

I know it looked like I criticized the book more than I praised it. Besides, what did I tell you?!?!? View all 15 comments. Jan 09, Chelsea chelseadolling reads rated it liked it. I'm definitely still interested in reading more from Ella Maise because I truly was so into the tension between the characters, but the book as a whole just went on too long for me.

I did all those things except the walking away part. It took him only minutes to talk me into a business deal Happiest day of my life. Pop the champagne It was the worst day. Jack Hawthorne was nothing like what I'd imagined for myself. I blamed him for my lapse in judgment.

I blamed his eyes, the ocean blue eyes that looked straight into mine unapologetically, and that frown on his face I had no idea I would become so fascinated with in time. It wasn't long after he said I was the biggest mistake of his life that things started to change.

No, he still didn't talk much, but anyone can string a few words together. His actions spoke the loudest to me. And day after day my heart started to get a mind of its own. One second he was no one. The next he became everything. One second he was unattainable. The next he seemed to be completely mine. When the silence in the mostly empty and sort of depressing room stretched on and it was my turn to speak up, I was on the verge of hyperventilating.

I had no beautiful wedding bouquet, only one single pink rose which Jack Hawthorne had thrust into my hands without a word right after we met in front of city hall. Jack Hawthorne was wearing a tailored black suit that was quite possibly worth a year of my rent, if not more. Next to him, I looked pretty cheap. Instead of a beautiful wedding dress, I had on a simple blue dress—it was the only thing I owned that was expensive and appropriate enough for the occasion, yet somehow it was still…cheap—and I was standing next to the wrong man, one who did nothing but frown and glower.

Also, there was the handholding, his grip surprisingly tight around mine, especially compared to my loose hold.
