Ryu and Gouki continue to fight, Ryu becomes desperate and is temporarily possessed by the Satsui no Hadou. However, he realizes that it is not the correct course of action and stops using the power. Gouki scolds Ryu, saying to him that his path to a great warrior had been clouded and that a true warrior unleashes his full potential.
Seeing Ryu as no threat to him anymore, Gouki unleashes a Metsu Hadouken on him,only to have Ryu survive it. Gouki then walks away, cursing Gouken and saying that he will meet Ryu again and fight him.
Bruised from his fight, Ryu walks away, foreshadowing a possible battle in the future. The day after Retsu is on the ground beaten, looking up and addressing his old friend Gouken.
He reminds him that he was asked by Gouken to take care of a young child who was left in his care when his mother died giving birth to the child and was told not to let the child take the path that the father Gouki had chosen. He gave him back to Gouken; for that same child would be conflicted with the Satsui no Hadou and it was the biggest mistake he had ever made He states that he is too old, and that his time has come.

Rayden is then asked by the Elder Gods about his feelings and obligations towards the mortals, and what he would be willing to do to ensure their survival.
Liu finds Nightwolf, who teaches him about the power of the Animality, a form of shapeshifting which utilizes the caster's strengths and abilities. To achieve the mindset needed to acquire this power, Liu must pass three tests. The first is a trial of his self-esteem, courage, and focus. The second comes in the form of temptation, which manifests itself in the form of Jade, a mysterious warrior who attempts to seduce Liu and offers her assistance after he resists her advances.
